30 before 30

So.. in 18 short days, my 1,001 days are up. A few months ago I started working on my new 101/1,001 list and I was really having a difficult time coming up with 101 plausible things that I wanted to accomplish. And I kept searching for people’s bucket lists online, and 101/1,001 lists, and 30 before 30 lists, and 40 before 40 lists, and so on. I discussed with Mallory, and we decided together that a 30 before 30 list was much more accessible this time around.. even though I turn 30 almost 9 months after she does. Here is my current 30 before 30 list… but it is obviously subject to change in the next 18 days. Any ideas? You’ll see some repeats!!

Banned Books

Soooo I just have been terrible at keeping track of this but I was almost sure that I had read 10 banned (or challenged) books since I started this list in October 2012. And I was right! I spent about 20 minutes today looking through the ALA’s list of books that have been banned and cross checking them with the list of books that I have read and here are the ten books that meet the requirements! Check!

Fahrenheit 451 – Ray Bradbury

The Pigman – Paul Zindel

The Golden Compass – Philip Pullman

Looking for Alaska – John Green

The Witches – Roald Dahl

Harry Potter – J.K. Rowling

Nineteen Minutes – Jodi Picoult

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian – Sherman Alexie

Eleanor and Park – Rainbow Rowell

Water For Elephants – Sarah Gruen

On a serious note, some of the books on these lists make me really angry. Dead Man in Indian Creek by Mary Downing Hahn? Banned for being “too scary” for children. THAT IS THE POINT! I remember reading that in fourth grade and being freaked out for weeks but IT WAS OKAY because I chose to read it in the first place and it’s supposed to be scary! Also Extremely Loud and Incredibly close is banned because of sex (which I don’t even remember!) but also because of VIOLENCE! It’s about a boy who lost his father in the September 11th attacks! Of course it contains some violence! AHHHH! People who try to ban books are the worst kind of people.

Etsy

Finally bought my final item from Etsy! I bought these two prints TWO YEARS ago, one for me and one for my friend’s wedding shower…  I loved them both (though there are a few mistakes that I have found on the map that I fixed myself.)

Then I bought two things that I’m not even going to share.. one shirt that I was very disappointed with and a birthday present necklace for a friend that was a big mistake, so those two things aren’t worth blogging about.

BUT. I bought this for my cousin’s baby shower and it is my favorite thing ever. I highly recommend it 🙂

So.. another thing crossed off. Only 84 days left…

Life is too short to read crappy books.

I just read three books in a row that were NOT GOOD AT ALL. (Disclaimer: This is my own personal opinion. Other people seemed to have liked these books just fine but I could not get into them.) (Not sure why I put a disclaimer, as I am not naming the three books that I did not like.) I didn’t even finish the last one, because why should I waste my time reading something that I am not even going to enjoy?

So I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Because it’s been over two years since I last read Harry Potter and that is far too long to go without reliving the magic.

And I have determined that I am going to make a howler for my christmas tree. Stay tuned.

planes, trains, and automobiles

I am terrible at maintaining a posting schedule. I’d blame business, but I had the whole week off last week and still did not post anything. Nor did I really accomplish much. None of the things on my Spring Break wishlist got crossed off. I didn’t read the Bible. I didn’t go bowling. I did go to the gym.. but only four days.

I did do one thing on my list though! I…
