2015 Recap

I have been terrible about blogging for the past year. 2015 was a tumultuous year for me. It had a ton of ups and downs and life changing events.

Here is a non-extensive list of good and bad things that happened this year. I’ve omitted some bad things that I don’t want to talk about, but I caught most of the good things, I think!

-I saw Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness with Insiya.

-My arm touched Andrew’s. It was wonderful.

-I went to paint and sip for the first time.

-I had one wild, eventful evening out.

-I had 3 job interviews in one week and one of them offered me a job! But it was too far of a commute…

-Parks and Recreation ended so Mallory, Ryan and I ate waffles and watched. It was sad.

-I saw Taking Back Sunday with Tara.

-Saint Patrick’s Day was quite the event.

-I went to Bayside’s 15 year anniversary tour with Meghan!!

-I went to Boston alone.

-I went to the aquarium.

-I started dating Randy.

-I hated my job.

-I finally got to attend Tulip Fest!

-I went to the Schenectady Library book sale with Mallory and bought lots of books!

-I walked in the Freihofer walk.

-I despised my job and cried myself to sleep almost every night.

-I screwed up my voice, almost permanently. Luckily it seems to have made a full recovery.

-I went to Montreal one evening for dinner.

-I saw Motion City Soundtrack and The Spill Canvas.

-I taught high school special education for the first time. It was a huge step up from teaching in May and June but high school is HARD.

-I watched a lot of animals and people (cat/dog/kid-sat for 14/31 days!)

-I saw Brand New play live at Ommegang Brewery!

-I visited Charleston, South Carolina.

-I started my new job in a completely different field than what I went to school for.

-I saw Bayside with my brother in Rochester and got to spend the weekend with him and his friends at school!

-I saw Breaking Benjamin with Tara!

-I saw Zac Brown Band with Kerri and Schuyler, after spending the day at the track!

-I turned 27 years old. My 10 year high school reunion is being planned. I am old.

-I moved to a new apartment by myself. I am enjoying it greatly.

-I went apple picking and to the pumpkin patch.

-I got to go through a corn maze.

-I attended Kerri and Schuyler’s wedding. I am so happy for them!

-My grandfather got diagnosed with lung cancer. Luckily it was stage one and they managed to catch it very early and remove everything.

-I went to see Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness alone! What a concert!

-Randy turned 26!

-I took a state test.

-I saw Bayside for the third time this year with Randy in NYC! We went for the day and got to see our friend Frank that moved there this year.

-Our first book club was held!

-I started getting serious about going to the gym again, and I started running!

Looking back, this year was incredibly eventful.

Here’s to 2016!

my favorite five musical artists

Last week I was supposed to go see Rise Against live, but then the lead singer of Linkin Park hurt his leg which led the entire show to come to a screeching halt before it even started. Concert cancelled. I was sad.

But the next day I had tickets to see Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness! I really have only listened to one song with his new band but I LOVE Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate and he played a bunch of those songs so I am counting it! He was my second favorite musical artist that I’ve ever seen, besides Bayside, my one true love. Andrew was SO GOOD. He at one point danced and sang his way through the crowd, and our arms touched. It was wonderful. I’m never washing my arm again.

Insiya took these pictures. Somehow her iPhone takes better quality photos than mine. Or I’m just bad at taking photos. Either way, good job to her. She has a video of him dancing right next to us but I couldn’t upload it on here, which is sad.

With this show, I was able to cross off another item on my list because this was the fifth concert that I went to!

The Big Miscellaneous Post

Of course, I am unable to sleep. What better time for me to post! I have been busy lately with work. I’m not really sure what free time is anymore- between work, work, and work I don’t really see any other than my weekends, when I am usually to tired and brain dead to even get off the couch. It’s good times, really.

I figured that tonight I’d just update you on a few things. First, I have made 3 more playlists. I think I am up to 6 or 7 new ones now. Their titles are self-explanatory.

Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 1.23.01 AM Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 1.22.20 AM Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 1.22.11 AMiTunes and my phone are fighting, so this last playlist actually has 5 more songs on it when I am on my phone… so I listen to them a lot at the gym. For documentation’s sake, I am going to add them here.

13. Raised by Wolves – Falling in Reverse

14. I Predict a Riot – Kaiser Chiefs

15. Killing in the Name – Rage Against the Machine

16. If The Brakeman Turns My Way – Bright Eyes

17. I Heard it Through The Grapevine – Kaiser Chiefs.

Again, my musical taste is interesting.

In other news, I went ahead and bought myself a ticket to the Bayside CULT TOUR! I am quite excited. Even though I am going alone. I DON’T EVEN CARE. I got my tickets in the mail yesterday and I actually squealed with excitement!

I failed again in my take a photo every day for a month. I’m coming to terms with the fact that it’s probably not going to happen. Unless maybe I document what I eat for dinner each night? Maybe? Or set a timer during the nighttime and wherever I am, I have to stop and take a picture? That could be super interesting. Maybe I’ll start tomorrow and do it even though it won’t be throughout one particular month… hmm.

I was just looking at my list, and I realized that I haven’t eaten any fast food for the month of March so far. I think I’ll see if I can continue this.

I already crossed it off, but I am trying to drink lots and lots of water throughout the day for Lent. Also, go to bed before midnight during the week (again, crossed off.) But I’m up past midnight tonight, you say? Yes… but Lent hasn’t started yet 🙂

I was going to start rewatching Arrested Development again so that I could watch the new episodes in one sitting… but then I noticed that Pokemon: Indigo League was on Netflix. Guess what I am watching instead!?

And my last thing.. I have begun trying to get rid of 101 things that I own! So far, I have removed 2 lamps, a box of random crap, a whole box of books, and my kindle. That’s at least 5 things so far, and I have other plans in the works! I am on a mission to declutter!

I am horribly aware that this is a terribly put together blog post, but frankly, it is 1:38am on a Tuesday night and this is my blog and I do what I want.

Alkaline Trio and Bayside

Three weeks ago now, I went to Rochester. It’s every bit as awful as people say it is. At 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon, there was no one outside. A few people waiting for busses, but other than that there were relatively few people walking down the street. So unlike Albany or Schenectady when there are people everywhere you go! The weather though, was gorgeous.

I got off track. The reason that I went to Rochester was to go see my beloved Bayside. This time on tour with Alkaline Trio! When I found out that they were on your together I screamed, then grabbed my phone to text Meghan immediately because I WAS going to this. Unfortunately they were not playing in the Albany area so we had to travel.. But luckily we’re becoming old pros at this.

So we hopped in the car Memorial Day weekend to head off on our journey. No road blocks, except we learned there is no street parking in Rochester. Only parking garages (sounds even better to me!) We also stayed in a hotel that was under construction, and while they weren’t working while we were there, it was still a mess. But it was a place to sleep.

And it was lovely. The venue was the most unique that I have ever been to.. An old factory type buildings with huge windows that let lots of light in, which was helpful for taking pictures, which of course I did not do! I wish that I had.

So, for #78: See five of my favorite musicians/bands live, I have seen two (one of them twice) as of May 25th.

I couldn’t find a good video on youtube at all of Alkaline Trio, so I decided to make a list of my favorite of their songs. It’s tough because they have been around forever and have so many, but here is a list:

  • I Lied My Face Off
  • Dethbed
  • Burn
  • Radio
  • I Wanna Be A Warhol
  • I’m Only Here to Disappoint
  • Good Fucking Bye

the next band that would change my life..

This past weekend, I went on my second longest trip to see a band ever. I went to see Bayside again, and it was something that I have been looking forward to since July. And now it is over, and I am super upset. Being there though, was fantastic.. especially since I did not get backed into in a parking lot by the car that was not paying attention. I survived the trip to New Jersey (yes, Bayside is one of the only reasons that I would willingly set foot in Jersey), survived the numerous crowd surfers, survived the vicious fight between two girls that looked like they could be no older than ten, and survived the mosh pit that opened directly behind us, all while singing along. Greatest forty minutes of my life. Should have been longer.. But anyway, I could not take pictures or videos or anything because there was no time, and I had other things to do. This post should be more exciting than just my ramblings, so I will post other people’s videos of Bayside, and maybe one of Taking Back Sunday (they technically headlined the tour).

Maybe I will inspire somebody to listen to more of Bayside (and they can join the cult!)

The first one of their songs that I fell in love with/want tattooed somewhere on my body:

The one that made me cry:

Love. Love. Love.
